We are delighted to present a fantastic series of practical, hands-on workshops at this year’s Fair. Each one has a very limited number of places, allowing you to try something totally new or improve on an existing skill whilst making friends and having fun.  Take a look at the timetable below to see what’s on offer.

Workshops are priced at £8 or £14 for 1 hour or 1.5 hours respectively. We advise booking your workshop in advance as these were extremely popular last year and we cannot guarantee that any unsold advance workshop tickets will be available at the Fair.  You will also need a valid entry ticket for the appropriate day. Bookings can be made via the Book Tickets link – simply navigate directly to the ‘Workshops’ tab in the menu.

Julia Phillips

Since Julia gained her City and Guilds qualification in Textile Surface Decoration, she has been teaching fabric dyeing techniques and block printing at shows and other textile groups across the country.  She currently works as a Creative Assistant for Colouricious.  Amongst her influences are artists such as Klimt, Van Gogh and Corot, as well as ethnic art from around the world.  She loves to inspire others to create a style of their own.

When not doing these things she teaches French in schools and nurseries and looks after her family.

Following a career in publishing and raising children, Sarah was accepted onto the RSN Future Tutors Programme in 2015. She has always enjoyed needlework and was a founding member of a patchwork and quilting group before completing a three year City and Guilds Certificate in Embroidery at Missenden Abbey. Whilst at the RSN, Sarah has taught for the School in the UK and Ireland and has been involved in a variety of projects:  Burberry's 'Maker's House', in partnership with the New Craftsmen; Game of Thrones 'Hardhome Embroidery' and Nicholas Oakwell Couture evening gown designed for the GREAT Britain Campaign.

Originally an adult educator and then a solicitor, Helen has returned to teaching combining it with her love of stitching.  She qualified as an RSN Tutor through their Future Tutors Programme and was awarded the Rachel McGowan Teaching Award. As well as working in the RSN Embroidery Studio, Helen now teaches Day Classes and Certificate & Diploma in Technical Hand Embroidery for the RSN at its base at Hampton Court Palace, Surrey, as well as at our UK satellites in Exeter, Bristol, Rugby and Glasgow.

Crafting for me was put on hold in the early days having spent 40 corporate years of working long hours and juggling life in general.  Once I took early ‘retirement’, I was able to re-visit crafting in general and play at lots of things I had not tried or done for a long time. I joined the WI and within what seemed weeks, set up a craft group at my house and a monthly WI group craft sessions at county office. Three years later, they are still being held and I am still playing!

At least 10% of ORIGAMI-EST proceeds are donated to Stop the Traffik, a charity committed to helping people find freedom from being trafficked as well as promoting awareness of the shocking realities of human trafficking.

Helena Marriott has been sewing and knitting since her Mum (a needle work teacher) started helping her make dolls clothes when very young. She has been teaching a variety of sewing, knitting and crochet classes over the past few years and continues to create on a daily basis. She loves to knit socks, crochet blankets and sew anything. When not doing these things she teaches French in schools and nurseries and looks after her family.

Sue recently made a life-changing decision to retire from her business as a Health and Safety Consultant to concentrate on developing multi-media workshops to share her skills with others.  Whilst contemplating retirement Sue studied Creative Textiles at Portsmouth College followed by a Textile Foundation course in West Sussex.  As a qualified teacher, Sue is now living the dream running workshops for adults and children in Midhurst and craft groups.  Her enthusiasm for teaching is infectious and stimulating.

Jane has achieved many other things in her career one of them being crate the signing certificate for ‘The Queens Diamond Jubilee’ on her visit to Leicester Cathedral.
